The personal Siri that Apple demonstrated in June 2024 shipped on September 14, 2026, as a beta inside macOS 27, iOS 27 and iPadOS 27. That is 27 months after the demo, after a public delay in March 2025 and a deal in January 2026 that put Google's Gemini models underneath Apple's new foundation models. On a Mac with M1 or later it can read what is on your screen, search your mail and messages, and act inside Apple's own apps. Other apps are being added one developer at a time, and Apple only opened that door to everyone on November 3, 2026, with App Store releases expected in the spring.

If your day runs through Gmail, Slack, Outlook or Google Calendar, none of that reaches you yet. Ida, a free Mac app, does those by voice today, and we say where it fits below.

The timeline

  • June 10, 2024. Apple shows a more personal Siri at WWDC: personal context, onscreen awareness, actions across apps. Promised within the coming year.

  • March 7, 2025. Apple says "it's going to take us longer than we thought to deliver on these features." Apple's statement, via TechCrunch

  • June 9, 2025. At WWDC 2025 Apple says it will share more "in the coming year." Executives later confirm that means 2026, and that Siri was rebuilt on a second architecture because the first did not meet Apple's bar. MacRumors

  • January 12, 2026. Apple and Google announce a multi-year deal. Apple's statement: "Google's technology provides the most capable foundation for Apple Foundation Models." Terms not disclosed; Bloomberg had reported about a billion dollars a year. CNBC

  • June 8, 2026. Apple introduces Siri AI, "as a beta later this year." Apple Newsroom

  • September 14, 2026. Siri AI rolls out in beta, in English. Apple Newsroom

  • October 26, 2026. The 27.2 updates add French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. Apple Newsroom

  • November 3, 2026. Apple opens a Siri AI developer preview to all developers with the 27.3 betas. App Store submissions open in the spring. Apple Developer News

What shipped on the Mac, and the fine print

On a supported Mac, Siri AI answers questions about what is on screen, draws on your messages, mail and calendar, and takes actions in Apple's apps such as Messages, Reminders, Calendar, Mail, Photos and Music. Apple's models were "custom-built in collaboration with Google and its Gemini models," running on the device and on Apple's Private Cloud Compute.

The conditions, all from Apple's own pages: it is labelled beta. It needs an M1 or later Mac or the MacBook Neo. Server features are "subject to daily usage limits," and "expanded access to such features will be available for a fee in the future." It is not available to users under 13 or to accounts in mainland China, and at busy times you may be put on a waitlist. In the EU it works on macOS but not on iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch for now. What reviewers found

Three independent tests, all pointing the same way: it works in Apple's apps and gets unreliable outside them.

MacStories, in its macOS 27 review, found Siri "integrates well with Calendar, Notes, Reminders, Mail, Messages, Maps, and Photos, although not perfectly," while third-party apps "generally don't work or only work in limited ways." MacStories

Macworld's Jason Cross, on the first iOS 27 beta: "the reliability and capability of the new Siri are not nearly ready for everyday users," with regular server errors during testing. Macworld, June 17, 2026

The most recent Mac test we found, from Peter Akkies on macOS 27.2: Siri completed 34 of 62 tasks. It failed on third-party apps such as Things and Flighty, on file tasks like organizing folders, and on vague requests, where it acted without asking what you meant. Geeky Gadgets, November 3, 2026

That last failure is a design choice as much as a model limit. Ida shows you what it is about to do, the recipient and the text, and waits. An ambiguous request becomes a card you can cancel, not an action you discover afterward.

What is still coming

Siri AI works inside another app only when that developer has exposed its actions through App Intents. At launch Apple named WhatsApp and Audible as supported, with Outlook, Notability and Tripsy "soon." The November 3 developer preview lets any app do the same, and Apple says the first of these reach customers "in a few months," with App Store submissions opening in the spring. So for Gmail, Slack or your task manager, the earliest realistic date is spring 2027, and only if each developer does the work.

Ida takes the other route. Instead of waiting for each app to add Siri support, it connects to Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Outlook, Slack, GitHub and iMessage itself. "Tell Jordan on Slack the deck is ready" works today, with a confirmation before it posts.

So what should a Mac user do?

If your work lives in Apple's apps on an M1 or later Mac, use Siri AI and expect beta behavior.

If it lives in Gmail, Google Calendar, Slack, Outlook or GitHub, or your Mac is an Intel model, Siri does not reach it yet. Ida does: hold a shortcut, say "reply to Maya in Gmail, Thursday works but not before ten," and Ida writes the reply, shows you the recipient and the text, and waits for you to send it. It runs on macOS 14 or later, Intel or Apple silicon, and it is free. The feature-by-feature comparison is in What Siri can and can't do on your Mac in 2026.

We will update this page when 27.3 ships and when third-party Siri apps reach the App Store.
